random but is this the video which is meant to look like the aha video for take on me? = ]

  • AuthenticCelestial says:

I mean, sure, they went a little more angular and dissonant on the s/t, and more poppy indie rock on their last two, but it’s always there.

  • AuthenticCelestial says:

their sound is directly related to that of Rites of Spring, et al. basically, the more emotional post-hardcore.

you’ve got the likes of Fugazi, kind of purist, with asbtract leaning, then the bands who ventured out into math-rock/post-rock/whatever (Slint, Rodan, etc), and the bands that had a melodic, emotional sound. which is the true ‘emo’ sound. it’s only really become a dirty word in the last ten years.

if SDRA refute the emo thing, it’s just denial. it’s at the heart of their music.

one of the best emo songs:) <3

  • WhenILearnToMilkIt says:

Nate Mendal is the bassist of the Foo Fighters and William Goldsmith played drums on the Foo Fighters second album

  • ZeRoO4478 says:

    sorry good band xD

  • ZeRoO4478 says:

considering emo or not, i think SDRE own some asses

anyway a good song, a good bad

    good music :)

  • Sttuarrtt says:

I just read before that these guys were like a huge influence in creating the emo genre, not that they were emo themselves. I like the song, this is the first time ive heard SDRE btw. I’m doing some research into the history of different music genres.

This was better than HUM though I had HUM as well. Which is strange I was watching Stars and then looked up Sunny Day so maybe there is a hidden resemblance. But I loved this CD more than HUM. Braid was good too, Braid: Behind the Canvas

  • flatline626 says:

This just reminds me of the band Hum. Is it a matter of tuning and distortion, or does anyone suppose there’s something else making that similarity come to mind?

  • 69bunnyfunny69 says:

yeah, I do to but they have the emo sound. Music that drips with emotion.

  • EpiphoneLPJrGuitar says:

    found my new band

  • seij555 says:

They never considered themselves emo, I hate when people always have to label bands.

  • obono says:

    @SapientesGladio
    thank you.

  • TheNatedogg56 says:

It’s a testament to these guys that there are bands that come out today that sound like clones of SDRE

  • SapientesGladio says:

    What a talented drummer.

  • Nemesais says:

    EPIC fucking drumming!

  • XsjadoX says:

    @timeenoughatlast

What do you mean emo is a genre? Emo was a genre before anything else. The whole fashion thing and culture formed from bands like this and in the past 10 years took a turn down abortion avenue.

This is real emo! Not that pretentious crap

  • wbkau says:

    wha? they reunited?yay

  • xman177 says:

Incredible….Sunny Day Real Estate is my favorite emo band!! Enigk is a genius……I wonder if they’re gonna put out a new album this year, I kno they just reunited not 2 long ago.
